Nestled in the scenic mountains of northern Thailand, Visama Mae Chan is Chiang Rai’s latest luxury tented camp, offering a harmonious blend of traditional Lanna culture and modern sustainability. As the debut venture of Visama Hospitality Group (VHG) Asia, the camp exemplifies responsible tourism while delivering a refined, immersive experience. The retreat features 10 spacious tents named after local hill tribes like Akha, Yao, and Hmong. Each tent ranges from 48 to 80 sqm, with verandas offering sweeping mountain views. Despite being set in nature, the tents boast high-end comforts including air conditioning, rain showers, espresso machines, WiFi, and 24-hour concierge service.
Culinary experiences are centered around Reu Doo Gaan restaurant, which serves farm-to-table organic Lanna cuisine and international dishes. Guests can also enjoy private picnics and foraging adventures, further connecting with the natural surroundings.
The camp offers curated two- to four-day themed “journeys” encompassing Lanna culture, art, cuisine, and outdoor exploration. A signature feature is The Ambalama, a cultural space hosting storytelling sessions and guest talks by notable speakers, including historians and authors.
Chief Operating Officer Chris Stafford highlights Visama Mae Chan as a unique fusion of luxury and tradition amid the legendary Golden Triangle landscape. Importantly, the camp operates on not-for-profit principles. Proceeds support Friends of Thai Daughters, a foundation working to prevent child trafficking by empowering girls from hill tribe communities.
Bookings began on 27th September, with the camp welcoming guests from 1st November 2023. Visama Mae Chan sets a new standard for luxury with purpose, showcasing that elegance and sustainability can go hand in hand.
